So I saw the final Harry Potter on Wednesday. It seems surreal that I spent a large chunk of my later adolescence reading and watching the movies--now they are gone. I think they did a great job on them anyways.
I was sent a message on Facebook by a former high school English teacher:
Ms. Carlson:
First off, I don’t make a practice of contacting former students and offering career advice. But I’ve seen your posts on Facebook and you seem to be in place where you’re still decidingon a career path. From what I remember, you’re a compassionate person who finds satisfaction in helping others. Therefore, have you considered a career in counseling? There are positions in education and the private sector. What about teaching elementary or middle school? Maybe you’ve thought about it already. My advice: Go for it.
Take care and be good.
C. Karnitz
It was very cool to see how one of my favorite teachers actually felt about me. I think I may take his advice and look into subbing as a start. Maybe look into getting certified for counseling middle school kids... It's a path I've thought of but never really took to heart--yet.
I bit the bullet and told Dale who does scheduling that I want to continue on 6 day weeks--with the caveat that I would be able to let him known ahead of time if I do need that extra day off every other week. I need the money and come winter will hardly notice that all I do is work. I just have so many expenses that are driving me nuts.. then a sister and friends weddings to get dresses/hairstyling/etc...
My roomie agreed we can cut down to just internet and drop the cable. I cancelled my fitness membership--let's hope I can keep losing weight, and my bff Amy said that it would be okay to move my phone to their account. All things that should save me money.
Camping trip coming up in a week. I'm excited for that. It is basically the last cool thing I'll be doing until Laurel's wedding... which btw I'm very excited for. I love her, and I love Kirk.
That's all for now... have had a few crazy story ideas bouncing through my head.. should really capture them before they're gone!
About the title...
Not only is it the metonymic adage coined by English author Edward Bulwer-Lytton in 1839 for his play Richelieu, it's the throw-back to the Jeopardy mock from the geniuses at SNL: http://www.funnyjunk.com/movies/8806/
The best part of words, they can be weapons. They can cut deep. They can also heal, transform and comfort. The might in the written word is often overlooked by those with limited vernacular--though I occasionally speak the every man's poetry of curses so I can't judge.
This blog in a sense is a way for me to exercise my favorite passion--writing. There will be personal accounts, prose, fiction and non, and anything else I feel like writing. Writing for the sake of keeping this seemingly lost art in the days of text-speak and the degeneration of our youth's ability for proper spelling and grammar.
I hope there to be humor and seriousness alike. I can't hold myself to too much promise on the outcome; simply see where it evolves!

Death to My Brain
My most recent conquest is to watch whatever bad movies Netflix suggests to me. This all started when "Beauty and the Briefcase" featuring triple-threat Hilary Duff (suicide, homicide, or genocide--it's your choice, har). It's led me through some heinous movies like Legally Blondes, Sorority Wars, Bring it On-AGAIN, and landed on High School Musical.
I've watched these hunched over my computer monitor at work hoping that nobody feels friendly enough to talk to me. I've been safe so far... (I'll hunt you down John--to the grave!)
My job here is not horrid all things considered. However, I find myself realizing that I need to start writing again. I used to write every day. It used to make me feel more whole. Maybe I can start with bad poetry:
*clears throat*
I yelled your name down the river in the canyon... at least it came back to me. (takes and emo-poetry bow)
Okay, it's not Hardy or Plath, but I think I've got a glass ceiling ripe for the shattering!
That's all for now... baby steps, right?

People, people, people... PEOPLE!
So today has been a good one thus far. Got up, threw a load in the washer and worked out. Came back and threw them in the dryer and got in a shower and a home-done pedicure. Now I'm at work.
There are just so many people in the world. Certainly it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round... but sometimes there are certain types that just grate my nerves like walking/talking cheese graters.
I don't think it is so much to ask to be able to walk into work and have a nice conversation with my coworkers. To just simply share the human experience of connecting to one another through things as simple as the weather and as complex as sadness.
What do I get? A gossip. Negativity. Bitchiness.
I'm sorry "Jim," I feel that there are more ways to converse with my fellow coworkers than to simply badmouth them. I hope that you don't talk about me behind my back when I'm not around--just to give you something to talk about.
I'm not here to discuss the raging insecurities you must feel deep within that you have to defame the character of the people around you. How desperate you are to make other people look bad so you're not left standing alone dead on the inside and just as ugly on the outside.
No, Jim, I'm here to discuss the fact that you're just another person out there that constantly tries to make me lose my faith in humanity.
I don't believe people are inherently good, but I do feel that most people have given up the good fight to be good... to do what is right.
But I digress; I claim to be no angel. I think the healthiest thing is to just let my words to him when he told me how a coworker (in a higher ranking department mind you) gave a customer a credit for their NSF charge (and accused him of not having the authority--which is a lie because HE IS the authority when we call UP to them): "Jim, that's really a strange thing for you to be concerned about."
Apparently he's been rather quiet since then... FOR ONCE!
